To the Headmaster for
increasing library facilities
Dear
sir
I, the undersigned, on behalf the students of class
IX and X of our school, would like to draw your kind attention to a very
important issue about the school library. The issue is really of great
significance because it lacks modern facilities to offer for the students like
us.
You are well-informed that about 2000 students are
active members of our school library. Most of the students do not get enough
time to study there. So, we will firstly request you to make some PDF version
of the very important books so that all students can access the website of our
school and read online. This modern facility will give the students an added
advantage. Again, you know most of the students have no personal computers at
home. If you kindly give 10 PC’s for the library then some hundreds of students
will be able to access World Wide Web and get updated information of the
academic world. Another facility we need and that is the duration of keeping the
borrowed books to be increased up to 20 days from 10 days because it is quite
tough to finish a book within 10 days. We talked to are fellow classmates about
the library fees. All students are willing to pay tk. 100 more if necessary for
the extra facilities they are asking for.
We would request you to take necessary steps to
increase the above mentioned library facilities as early as possible.
- Write an application to the Headmaster for opening an English
language club
The Headmaster/Headmistress
Viqarunnisa School & College
Azimpur, Dhaka
Subject: Application for opening an English Language Club
Dear Sir
I, the undersigned on behalf of the students of our school,
would like to draw your kind attention to a very important issue.
According to the database of the
school, we have about 3000 students in different classes starting from class
six to ten. The Bangladesh Govt. has taken an initiative to enhance students
English Language skills so that they can express fluently in writing and
speaking. We, the students, are facing severe problem and that is we do not
have the practicing environment outside the classroom. Discussing this issue
with some senior teachers of our school, we came up with a solution to the
problem and that is to open an English Language Club. This club can help us to
a great extent. Everyday just after the class, we all students will gather in
our auditorium and be there for 20 minutes only. We will arrange audio visual
system so that we can boost up our learning thirst. All our English teachers
will routinely monitor the club activities.
We would be grateful if you take
necessary steps and assign us the duties to open our desired English Language
Club.

A letter to mother about
hostel life.
Dear
Mom
Now it is 11.00 P.M. I am alone who is not sleeping
because I am thinking about you and so started writing some lines to you. In
the last letter you wanted to know how I am spending my hostel life in a far
away distant place.
Mom, you know life without
your touch is a dark world to me. You have ensured everything for me for my
hostel life. I don’t have any demand except one. I know this demand cannot be
fulfilled right away. You know I can’t lead a life which is lonely. The good news
is my roommate is unimaginably cooperative and friendly. She does not let me
feel lonely. We have TV set, computer, internet connection, and all. One thing cannot
be replaced and that is you, my mother. I feel your presence every time
whenever I am alone. Please ma, never worry about me, about my studies and about
my health. I am really conscious about my life, my health and studies. As per
your advice I go to bed early, get up early, take some exercise, and surely eat
nutritious food. I just need one more thing for my betterment and that is your
solemn prayer to Allah about my everything. Please take care about daddy.
No more today. I am coming
home next month during the Eid Vacation. Let me end my letter by writing one final
sentence you are the best mother in the world.

Life of a Florist
Every human is beauty worshiper. Flowers are the
symbols of beauty. The person or the shop that sells flowers, called florist is
the seller of beauty. A florist is seen usually in flower shops or by the roadside.
The life of a florist is colourful, full of surprising events which are not
usually known to us. The florists are poor people without doubt but happy
people for sure. Routinely a florist has to rise very early because many flower
buyers like to buy fresh flowers in the early morning. For this reason the florists
have to go directly to flower-cultivators and carry flowers of multiple colours
with rickshaws or vans. The morning scene of flower carriage is superbly
heavenly. Reaching the flower shopping centers, the florists decorate the shops
with different flowers to attract customers. The decoration is done with expert
hands. These beauty sellers eagerly wait for good customers but in most of the
times they have to despair for not getting the buyers and the main reason is
most of the flowers are short-lived. A florist stays at the shop till 10.00
p.m. and this way he or she passes an usual day. In most of the cases a florist
does not own a flower shop rather he or she works as a daily wage earner. The
life of a floating florist is more pathetic. This type of florist has to buy.
flowers from the flower shops and sell flowers for whole day. Floating florists
are usually girls, small girls, seen requesting the people traveling or
commuting whole day. The common selling sentence is “vaia, ekta ful nen na!”
sometimes people buy from them and sometimes not. Their life is indeed pathetically
intolerable. We, the rich people of the society, should be sympathetic to this
type of beauty scatters, the florists.

For remission of delay fine
29 July 2015
The Headmistress
‘X’ High School
1/A New Baily Road
Dhaka-1205
Subject : For remission of delay fine
Madam
With due respect I would like to inform you that I
am a student of class IX, bearing the roll number 14, science group. B-section,
could not pay the tuition fees in time. I have been all along regular in paying
my tuition fees. But last month I could not pay my fees at the scheduled time
because my father had a fatal accident and we had to leave the city for one
month. When we came back, it is already late for the payment and I found an
amount of late fee has been added with regular fees.
May I, therefore, hope that you would be kind enough
to remit my delay fine and permit me to pay the usual fees and oblige thereby.
Yours obedient student

Application for relief goods
for the flood affected people of Rayhanpur Union
The thana Nirbahi Officer
Patharghata Thana. Barguna
Subject: Application for relief goods for the flood
affected people of Rayhanpur Union
Dear Sir
I, the undersigned, in favour of the inhabitants of
Rayhanpur Union under Patharghata Thana, would like to draw your kind attention
to an urgent issue which has been a burning concern within just seven days. As
you are well informed about the fact that our area has been badly affected by
the recent unprecedented flood which irreparably destroyed most of the houses,
uprooted almost all types of trees, washed away the cattle and other pet
animals, and above all, fully destroyed the trees and crops. As you visited many
small areas like ours. You saw they look like a deserted ones where is
indescribably scare. Our grandparents are surprisingly commenting that they
have never seen this type of natural calamity before and the aftermath is just
beyond control of anyone. We are sure you read the inconsolable news of the
death toll which has reached to number 10 and still some 200 people are
suffering from different types of water borne diseases like cholera and
dysentery. The badly affected ones are our beloved children of different age
groups and some pregnant mothers. There are some families which are about to
perish because of the scarcity of food, shelter, treatment and clothing. If
immediate assistance is not ensured, the death toll will be beyond anyone’s
control and then no steps will work properly as there surely will be a point of
no return.
Under the circumstances like these we expect and
hope from a distinguished TNO like you, to extend your helping hand and also
request you to take all necessary steps to mitigate the deadly crisis by
sanctioning and distributing the required relief goods without delay.
Kind regards,
Md. Yeasir
In favour of the inhabitants of Rayhanpur Union

A Responsible Citizen/A Good
Citizen/Rights and Responsibilities of a Good Citizen/A Dutiful Citizen/An
Aware Citizen
A good citizen of any nation has some constitutional
rights and some social responsibilities. To exercise these rights, s/he has
several undeniable responsibilities to perform. A single citizen, who does not
bear any responsibility, cannot be considered as a good citizen. We can say, in
other way, rights are for responsibilities. An aware citizen socially has to
shoulder some responsibilities, firstly towards the family, then towards the
society and lastly towards the nation. A good citizen never tries to avoid any
assigned duties on him or her. A conscientious citizen having patriotic zeal is
he who is always ready to sacrifice his or her life for the sake of motherland
if need arises. She / he has some other social duties like helping the distressed
and standing by the victims of any kind. A worthy citizen, like all human beings,
has some predefined responsibilities to the creator and also to His creations. In
the same fashion, a responsible citizen has the right to exercise some rights.
The prime rights of a good citizen are to live and speak freely. We can
consider these rights as the freedom of living happily and securely and freedom
of speech. A good citizen boldly faces any sort of evil. He or she has five
fundamental rights such as right to be fed, right to be clothed, right to be
sheltered, right to be properly treated, and right to be educated. Any
democratic government has to ensure these citizen rights at any rate. A good
citizen always extends his or her helping hands to the poor and needy. Though
in the whole world, it is said, a good citizen has rights to all of these basic
necessities, some fortunate ones are blessed with these rights and a vast majority
of the citizens are deprived of in the light of reality.

The Life of a Garment Worker
For the last twenty years or so garments industries
have become the largest sector of our foreign exchange earnings. About 1.5
million garments workers work in hundreds of garments factories set up all over
the country. Some 90% of the workers are girls and about 30% of them are aged
between 13 and 20 years. A garment worker comes of a very poor family and so
her life is very miserable. She usually lives in a slum with her family or with
the other girls who work in the same factory. She gets up very early in the
morning, does all household chores, prepares breakfast and lunch for herself
and the family members. Then she prepares herself and takes her breakfast
hurriedly. She starts for her working place at about 7:30 a.m. as her working
time starts at eight. Generally, she goes to the factory on foot with groups of
girls who work in the same factory. On the way to her destination she is indicted with slang words from various Eve teasers.
Though it is very miserable, she has to tolerate the bad comments. In the factory
also, she does not get the congenial atmosphere to work. The room in which she
works is very congested and where sometimes she has no seat to sit upon.
Therefore, she has to work whole day resting on her foot. There are no
privileges, usually no safety measures to prevent fire or other accidents in
the factory. Very often fire accidents break out and every year some workers
lose their lives. The authority does not even care to behave with them
properly. At 1:00 p.m. she is given a break for half an hour and within that
time she has to take the poor lunch she has brought from home. Though her
working duration is generally 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., most of the time she has to
work for long hours till late night. But for this extra work, she is not properly
remunerated. She earns 1000 to 2500 taka per month for her hard work. Normally,
she is married to a fellow co-worker but even with their joint income they
cannot lead a decent life. A garment worker earns foreign exchanges for our beloved
country. So, it is their right, not sympathy that they should get proper salary,
fixed working hours, improved factory atmosphere and respectful attitude from
all of us. A garment worker is our pride indeed.

How I pass my free time
Pastime means someone’s free time. Free time is very
rare in today’s world for people, especially for a student like me. l prefer to
enjoy my free time mainly by reading books, watching TV, hanging out with my friends
and family members, and surfing the internet, etc. But out of all of my free
time activities, I love reading books, the science related books. The most
favourite pastime of mine is not common to the millions of girls like me. It is
the practicing of Yoga together with listening to the world famous relaxation
and meditation music. It is the fastest way to divert my mind from all the
stress, pressure, monotony, anxiety and tension I go through every day. They
also help me broaden my horizon of thinking and fascinate me with different new
ideas. They give me bliss and heavenly pleasure. Watching sports is also one of
my favourite pastime activities. The intensity of excitement and thundering
cheering for my favourite team is priceless to me. Spending time with friends
and family is always a treat for me. These are some common and uncommon ways
how I pass my free time on a daily basis though free time activities may differ
from place to place, person to person, and country to country.

A letter to an uncle thanking him for sending
you a birthday gift
My dear uncle
Peace be upon you dear uncle Sunny. Yesterday was a
pleasant and unforgettable day of my life because just when I got up in the
morning, I saw the sweetest birthday wish from my adorable uncle and that was
you. The wish made me feel proud, it made me laugh, it made me surprised and it
made me cry as well. I was proud because it was you who sent the wish SMS, it
made me laugh because as usual you addressed me as ‘BURI’, it made me surprised
because you sent a birthday present for me which reached just one hour later
than I received your SMS and it made me cry because you wished to be present on
the day of celebration of my birthday but you are thousands miles away, in a
far away land, in USA and consequently we both are missing each other this time
ever in our life.
Uncle, you do not know what a lovely present you
sent me this time. When I unwrapped the present, I just made a loud cry seeing
my dream present, an i-Phone. Even I did not tell anyone about my wish to own
an i-Phone one day but you, it is you who made it happen. Billions of thanks
are for you dear Sunny uncle for your beautiful present. I am giving you my
word, as you mentioned your wish in the SMS, I will surely secure the first
position in my half-yearly exam. Uncle, I still can remember the days you used
to play with me, help me in my studies, tell me jokes whenever you found me
sad. I just miss you heaps.
Now I have to say goodbye to you here. Remember, I
just cannot forget you for a single moment. Whenever from today I will use the
i-Phone you presented me, it will remind me about you. Again, trillions of
thanks and the ever best wish just for you. We all are getting along well by
the grace of Almighty. Last but not the least, my advice to you, please study
well because I want to see you as Dr. Sunny Uncle in 2017.
With Regards

11. A letter
to your friend congratulating her for her brilliant result in JSC
Dear Hrid,
I feel delighted to receive your long-expected
letter today. Though I stay far away land from you, I never forget you for a
single moment. At this point, your smooth writing has left me a nice impression
on my mind. You have noted that you bagged A+ in your JSC exam in 2014 and so
did I. Hey buddy, it’s very natural and you deserve it. Still when I read the
line about your result, I went nostalgic to behold the beauty of your facial
expression just at the time when you first heard the news of your result and of
course what was the feeling of your beloved parents and teachers.
Nowadays everyone says that getting A+ is just like
a piece of cake. Is it actually so? I disagree. If it may be the case with
others, I always believe, you truly are worthy of it because you are not an
ordinary student rather a superbly genius and extraordinarily talented one. So,
it’s beyond compare the joy we felt as you secured the highest marks among all
students. Ocean deep wishes are for you and heaps of congratulations are just
for you. I hope you will be able to continue surprising us by doing this type
of amazingly brilliant result in the days to come.
I hope you are fine by the grace of Almighty and so
are your parents and siblings. Please write me often whenever you get some free
time. Nothing to say more but remember I miss you a lot.
Ever yours,
Hridi

A letter to father requesting to send some
money to buy books and other things
Dear father,
Peace be upon you all. How are you and how is mom? I
received your last letter yesterday about the problem you are going through.
The sad events you mentioned in the letter made me cry. You may think how dare
I am, I am writing this unexpected letter just at the time of immeasurable
crises you are going through. But daddy I have no alternative.
Daddy, yesterday I got my result of the first semester
result and you will be glad to know that I bagged the highest marks among all students.
From next Sunday, the classes of the second semester will start and I need to
buy some science books and some education aids like a new geometry box, a
globe, a map and some writing copies for which I will require taka 1200 or so.
These are necessary things without which no student can continue studying. I
know you never say no to me when the question comes of giving money because you
know your daughter never spends a little amount without purpose. Yes daddy, I
can assure you after this extra amount, I will not need money for the next 6
months as you know I am doing a tuition and I am getting some two thousand taka
per month.
I hope mom is alright and always prays for me.
Please tell mom I miss her a lot and I always pray for her. I promise daddy, I
will make your dreams come true whatever pains I have to go through during my
student life. Please send the money when you can make it ready. It would be
convenient for me if you could send the money through BIKASH account.

To your younger brother
advising him to take part in games and sports.
Dear brother
Ocean-deep adoration to you as I came to know about
your brilliant result in your half-yearly examination. Remember, success is a
journey, not a destination. This letter to you has got a special purpose and a
good advice for you.
You know Shanto, only academic result is not enough
to be a complete person. You have to be mentally and physically fit. To be
mentally fit you have to be a clean person in thinking. On the other hand, to
be physically fit you have to take part in games and sports of different kinds.
Physical fitness can contribute a lot to reach your goal. It is said, a
physically disabled person is deprived of many blessings. He can not eat
properly, sleep properly. Even if you want to make a good result, you have to
be a strong person. So, my advice to you is that you should take part in all
sorts of games and sports, of your school. In the morning, you can take some
light physical exercise and remember, walking is always the best for health.
Your adoring Sister

To your brother to avoid
evil company
Dear Shanto,
I am really unimaginably pleased to get your letter
in the morning today. I am heavenly blessed to be a sister of a superbly
adorable brother like you. In the last letter you sought for some constructive
advice to build your life in solid foundation and here they are for you.
You know I am 5 years senior to you and I adore you
heaps. This letter to you has got a special purpose. The central advice to you
this time is selecting friend rightly and avoiding the evil companies surely. I
am sure that you know the famous proverb “A man is known by the company he
keeps”. Yes, you are the reflection of your company. You are affected and
always impacted by your close friends. I am telling you a secret: all bad
habits originate from the evil companies be it smoking or any sort of
addiction, evil companies are directly responsible. The opposite is also true.
Keep good companies and be the greatest. So, be very selective when you choose
friends and save yourself from the effects of bad companies.

To your pen-friend about
food and food habit
Dear Alex
I am writing to you from a far away land, a place of
green trees, hundreds of rivers and an abode of peace loving people. In this
letter, today I will give you a clear idea of the food habit of our people in
Bangladesh.
Alex, unlike the people of your country, our
people’s food habit is quite different. We here in Bangladesh love to eat rice
and fish three times a day. The rich people in the capital city and in other
divisional cities are fond of fast food. In different occasions and in the free
time the young students hang out and eat food like pizza, chicken fry, French
fry etc. The concept and practice of take away food is also growing mostly in
the big citizens. In the functions like marriage ceremonies, birthday
celebrations and in the functions like these, the rich food items are served
like beef and other spicy foods. Most of the people, who are well-off, tend to
eat Chinese, Thai and Indian foods in the restaurants. This is a short description
about the food and food habit of the people of our country.
I have to say goodbye to you now and surely I would
love to know the same from you soon. This will give me contrastive ideas about
the food and food habit of the people in two different countries. Love to you
and veneration to your parents. I am eagerly waiting for reply.
Ever yours

To your friend describing
about a picnic
Dear Hrid,
My joy was beyond compare when I received your
letter yesterday. In the letter you passionately wanted to know about the
picnic we all class IX students went to. If you even did not want to know about
it, I would surely tell you.
One the 5th June, 2015, we all the
students of our school, after taking preparation for about one month, made our
dream come true and we went to grand picnic by launch to Kuakata, You surely
know that this is a very attractive place where on each spot, mother nature has
got her touch.
We started from Dhaka very early in the morning and
reached there in the afternoon. You will not believe that the night sky of that
place and cold wind from the Bay-of Bengal how affected our mood. We felt the
heavenly touch of nature and fully realized why people cannot forget this place
if once they come. We ate our especially cooked food for picnic. As decided beforehand,
we all walked by the Bay bank and late at night we all went to sleep. We were
lost in the nature.

To your friend inviting her
to your elder sister’s marriage ceremony.
Dear Ammar
How sweet it is to get your long anticipated letter!
Your every letter has got a touch of love and adoration. This letter I am
writing is a special one for you. Read this carefully and act accordingly
please.
You are one of the special ones in our family as my
mom always says. We cannot even think of any small or big ceremony without your
presence. You probably can remember that my elder sister is going to marry an
engineer from BUET on 12 December, next month and the ceremony will be held on
the same day at BGB Convention Center. You will not believe how troublesome it
is to make a function a success. So we need you and your assistance a lot. As
my parents said, you should be here in our home at least three day before the
function. And my elder sister also requested you to come early. I hope you surely
will enjoy being with us. I know that you will never turn down our request.
No more today. Please convey my veneration to your
parents and adoration to little sister.

A Bus Stand
A bus stand is
crowded place where the buses stop and start from. Every day and night many
buses touch the station in different time. Generally it is situated at the
junction of the roads or beside a market. It is not a permanent place for the
passengers. They wait there with great eager to get on the bus. In some bus
stands there are counters for ticket and passengers stand in a line for buying
tickets. It is a busy and noisy place. Constantly the shouting of the helpers,
conductors, hawkers and the speech of the common are heard. Many types of
hawkers are available who sell betel leaf, bread, cigarette, fruit, newspaper
etc. Again, some street beggars cry in loud voice with a view to drawing the
passengers’ attention. There are a few big bus stands located at the district
headquarters or in the big cities including the capital city. Besides these big
bus-stands, there are other hundreds of bus stands scattered all over the
country. Beside the bus stands tea stalls are found nearby. Many passengers,
while waiting for buses, go there and refresh themselves taking a cup of tea or
coffee. When a bus comes up, there is a usual bustle and hurry among the
passengers. They push one another to get on it. Ladies find it too difficult to
get on it. At that time the drivers and the conductors are also very busy;
their shouts are also heard. Most of the buses are found crowded. So, thieves,
swindlers and pickpockets sometimes try to misguide the innocent passengers for
fulfilling their evil desires. After all, a bus stand plays an important role
in communication. So, government should take proper steps for the improvement
of the bus station. In a word, the importance of the bus stand has become
great.

Deforestation
One of the most major aspects of the environment of
earth being able to support life is the presence of trees. Trees are vitally important
for humans, animals and the environment of the earth. They supply the air with
oxygen which supports life on earth. They provide food and shelter to several
creatures, including humans. However, trees are disappearing at a raging rate
from the earth’s surface due to human activities. Trees are being cut down for
the production of timber for furniture and buildings and in the production of
paper. Wood is being used for fuel in the developing countries. Forests are cleared
up for growing crops and grazing animals. These human practices have caused the
depletion of more than 50% of the trees covering our globe. Such rapid
deforestation is causing endless harm to the earth in various manners. It is making
the cleared forest areas infertile and useless due to soil erosion. Several species
of animals are going to be extinct every day as their life support is being threatened,
resulting in massive extinction. It increases the chances of flooding and
drought in affected areas. One of the major problems may be the emission of the
greenhouse gas carbon dioxide from the burning and rotting of trees. This is
speeding up the rate of global Warming, a universal fear. With contribution
from every individual in planting trees and the government in restricting tree
cutting can actually save the earth for our future generations.

My first day at school
My mother accompanied me to school on the first day.
Other parents accompanied their children as well. We all waited in front of the
school office. Soon a teacher came and led us to some classrooms. There we were
put into four separate classes. This was when some children began to cry as the
parents were not allowed into the classrooms. I did not cry because I had been
to kindergarten before. Actually my mother went home soon after for she knew I
would be all right. It was an enjoyable time for me as I got to know my new classmates.
The teacher was very busy writing down our particulars so we had plenty of time
to ourselves. Meantime some children continued to sob while their parents
looked in anxiously through the windows. Soon recess came. Some of us headed
for the tuck-shop while the rest headed for their parents. I bought a drink
with the money my mother gave me. Getting to know my new friends had made me
thirsty. After recess we went back to classroom and my new friends and I
managed to coax two boys to stop crying. In fact, soon we were laughing and
playing together. Once in a while the teacher had to tell us to keep quiet as
we were making too much noise. Still some parents looked in anxiously through
the windows. Finally the bell rang for us to go home. Some of us were very
relieved to be reunited with our parents. I too was glad to see my mother
waiting for me at the school gate. I had made many friends. It had been a
wonderful first day at school.

Prize Giving Ceremony
I walked into the hall room. It was grand,
beautifully decorated with exquisite white orchid flowers and sparkling blue
lights. I could see the stage at the far end of the hall room, across a sea of
blue- cover chairs. A low music was playing in the background which gave the
hall a formal ambience. It was the annual price giving ceremony of our school,
where every year the top scoring students are encouraged by giving certificates,
medals and trophies. It’s always been my parent’s dream that one day their
daughter would receive an outstanding result. However, it was not until the
last term that I had done such an exceptional result of scoring above 90 in all
the subjects. And so I was to receive a trophy from the principal of our
school. I got seated along with my friends who had done just as excellent a
result as I had. Within minutes the ceremony started. It began by a beautifully
choreographed dance performance by some really young students of our school.
Our principal then came up on the stage and presented a speech for the audience
who were present at the ceremony. After a few more performances by the students
of our school, the principal came up to the stage once again. She announced
that the prize distribution was about to start. All the students who were to
receive prizes for encouragement were asked to make a line in front of the
stage. We all stood accordingly. Soon after the principal madam stated calling
out the names of the students in ascending order. Most of the students only
received a certificate, about 20 students received medals and only 5 of us
received a certificate and a trophy. As principal madam called out my name I
heard the wild applause coming from everywhere in the hall. I walked up the
stage gracefully, shook hands with madam and held my trophy. It was like beautiful
piece of glory which reflected all my hard work which brought out such an
extraordinary result. As I turned to the audience, I saw the faces of my parents,
bright and filled with satisfaction. There was nothing better than seeing my
parents being so proud of me. After the ceremony ended, we were taken to a
different hall for a grand buffet dinner. I quickly finished my dinner with my
friends and went up to my parents. My father pulled me towards him, placed his
hands on my head and said “You have made us the happiest, we are proud to call
you our daughter”. Probably these words, to me, were more than any wooden
trophy.

Paragraph – The
International Mother Language Day
The International Mother Language Day is an
important day in the history of Bangladesh. Formerly it was known as ‘Language
Martyrs’ Day’, but now it has been recognized internationally as the
‘International Mother Language Day’ on 11 November, 1999 by UNESCO. At present
this day is observed all over the world to show love for mother tongue. In our
country it is observed as a National Mourning Day. This is the day on which a
lot of young Bengalis laid down their lives to uphold the right of their mother
language. Salam, Borkat, Rafique, Zabbar, including others were shot dead in
the language movement procession against the illegal ruling party of Pakistan.
Every year we observe the day with profound solemnity and great respect for the
martyrs. Early in the morning the whole nation comes to the Martyrs Monument to
pay homage and due respect to the departed souls. People of all walks of life
come here bare footed in procession and offer flowers and wreaths to show
honour to the martyrs. The people there keep silent for some minutes in honour
and remembrance of the language martyrs. Government and non-government
organizations arrange programmes to celebrate the day. On the occasion national
programmes are held that are joined by the president, Prime Minister and other
high officials of government. Newspapers publish special supplements on the
occasion. Television channels and radio stations broadcast special programmes
highlighting the significance of the day. Prayer is held in public prayer halls
throughout the country for the salvation of the martyrs. This day inspire the
people to love their mother language. We should do everything to save the honour
of our mother language. It is we, the Bangalees showed the importance of any
nation’s mother tongue and hence now the whole world is giving prominence to
master the first language of any nation with excellence.

Paragraph: A Moonlit Night
A moonlit night is a magnificently beautiful time
when the full moon shines in its entire glory in the sky and it is really charming
and enjoyable. It is truly a night of dream and it presents a beautiful sight.
A moonlit night is one of the beautiful phenomena of Mother Nature. It occurs
when the moon rises in the sky. It is very romantic to both male and female,
young and old. The moon may be crescent or full, but it is beautiful in both
forms. We Banglees count six seasons in a year. In each season we see the moon
for two fortnights with a break in between. But the moon in autumn appears in its
best. In autumn the sky remains quite clear. So, the silvery light over-floods
everything. The autumnal moon beams its silvery light. The moon is glosses like
a piece of glass. The full moon looks like a silvery plate. It looks beautiful
in the blue autumnal sky. The sky in autumn is clear. Here and there a few
patches of white clouds float swiftly. The moon plays hide-and–seek with these
bulging piece of clouds. It is very pleasant to look at the sky at the time and
to hear the night –birds play their sweet notes in the moonlit sky. The earth
seems to be washed with moon-light. The moon reflects on the ponds and tanks.
The blue water in them looks glossy. The lilies bloom in them. Little children
sit around their grandmamma to hear the fairy tales or the tales about the
wizards. Sometimes they play hide and seek together and have fun themselves. A
moon light night is very romantic to the newly married couple and who are in
love. The poet of all language praised highly. A moonlit night is nature’s
sweetest offer to mankind. It has a lasting effect the human minds. Even the
grand old ladies remember their green youth where they sit alone in the moonlit
night.

National Memorial
National Memorial is one of the greatest monuments
constructed as a token of love, respect and remembrance for the martyrs of our
Liberation War of 1971 and it is uniquely sublime soaring high in the sky. It
is located at Savar, about 35 k.m. north-west of Dhaka, symbolises the valour
and sacrifice of the martyrs who laid down their lives for freeing our beloved
motherland, Bangladesh, the then East Pakistan, from the grip of Pakistani
occupiers. It was designed by Syed Mainul Hossain. Plans for the monument were
initiated right after the independence, in 1972. The main structure and the
artificial lake and other facilities were completed in 1982. The monument is
composed of seven isosceles triangular pyramid shaped structures, with the
middle one being the tallest. The highest point of the monument is 150 feet.
There is an artificial lake, and several mass graves in front of the main
memorial. The architect has used concrete for the monument while all the other
structures and pavements of the complex are made of red bricks. It symbolises
that it is built with concrete but made of blood. Once one enters the main
complex through the main entrance, she or he can see the monument axially but
to reach it one has to walk through different ups and downs of the pavements
and cross the artificial lake by a bridge. All these represent the struggle for
independence, our freedom. The most moving sight of the complex is the several
graves of the martyred freedom fighters: close to the towers. Standing in front
of the graves, we bow down our heads in respect, as the towers soar up
symbolising the loftiness of the spirits of our heroes: the freedom fighters.

My
Favourite Icon
In the journey of life we come across several unique
people who undeniably stand out in our memory and enlighten us internally. This
incomparable personality unknowingly becomes our idol, a person of veneration,
a character of remembrance, a symbol of success, an icon. Unlike others my icon
is truly inseparable from my world of imagination. It is he who has become my
constant guru, my motivator and a legend who has taken a permanent place in the
neuron cells and his memory cannot be deleted. This person is none but my
teacher, my mentor, Mr. Yeasir Ahmed Milan. He taught me how to discover my
inner-self. This icon showed me the world, opening my eyes. It is he who taught
me how to dream big and how to make that dream a reality. As an ordinary girl,
I did not find the truth of life; purpose of my existence, my icon became my
driver who took me there where the truth reins. Now I am confident and
courageous to do the things that I must do. All the successful people on earth
did have their icons for whom they became what they were. Famous scientists,
legendary writers and successful businessmen did have their heroes of life. It
is usually said successful icons can make future legends. My icon motivates me
when I am in the ocean of depression, loves me when I am uncared, helps me when
I am helpless, enlightens me when I am in the world of darkness. I never find
me alone when I need a friend. He is a true and devoted guide in this world and
an expected companion in the hereafter. I adore him and show my veneration, I
pray for him for his heavenly purification. I am my present me for my dream
icon, my mentor of life, the teacher. I am really proud of him for today and
for eternity.

Hridoy : Cool indeed. How about you? Yes.
I was out of the city.
Hridi :Uh

Hridoy :He
has been my most favourite teacher for his extraordinary teaching quality.
Hridi :Hey,
I would like to know some of his qualities.
Hridoy :You
will not believe how he makes all the students so spell-bound.
Hridi :That’s
really incredible. Only the best teachers can do that.
Hridoy :Hmm.
Not only that, he can make lessons so interesting that every student has to
give attention.

Write a dialogue between you
and your English teacher about now to learn English
Student : May
I come in, sir?
Teacher
: Please do come in. Have
seat.
Student : Thank
you sir.
Teacher : How
can I help you?
Student : Sir,
one day you told me to come in person and you wanted to give some suggestions about
how I can
learn English well.
Teacher : Oh,
yes. Hmm, I can give you some suggestion about that. If you want to improve the
four language
skills you have to follow four things.
Student : Sir,
please tell me. I really want to improve my language skills.
Teacher : First,
if you want to improve your speaking ability /skill you have to listen
intensively.
Student : I
got it sir. What is the second one?
Teacher : And
if you want to improve your writing skill, you have to read a lot.
Student : Sir,
I understood. I have problem in listening. I can’t comprehend when I listen.
Teacher : Yes.
I have got the 3rd suggestion for this. You have to listen to easy
and comprehensible English.
Student : Ok,
sir. I will start with easy one. But I have problems in reading as well.
Teacher : Basically
all students like you have this problem.
Student : Sir,
please suggest me something great so that I can overcome this problem.
Teacher : It’s
simple. Just follow one rule
Student
: What
is that rule sir?
Teacher : Reading,
reading and reading.
Student : Sir,
I usually don’t read other than the text books.
Teacher : This
you should not do.
Student : Sir,
when I read, I don’t understand the meaning.
Teacher :
I got your problem.
Student
: Please
tell me why it happens.
Teacher :Your
vocabulary level is very poor.
Student
: What
should I do sir?
Teacher :Reading
and listening, both will help you to improve your words.
Student
: What
else can I do sir?
Teacher :You
can maintain a vocabulary diary.
Student
: How
should I use that diary sir?
Teacher :That’s
a good question. Whenever you came across any new word, write it down on your
diary.
Student :I
would love to do that sir.
Teacher :That’s
all. Start following the above and meet
me after 2 months.
Student :OK,
sir , thank you so much. I will never forget your help.
- A Street Hawker
A person
who sells various things by moving from street to street is called a street
hawker. He is a self-employed person. He is the familiar figure in the cities
and towns. He raises a strange outcry to draw the attention of his customers
.He wears a peculiar dress of different colours. He tries to attract the
attention of the customers by using different tricks. He carries his goods
either in bundles or in a basket. Sometimes he walks about with his goods on a
wheeled platform. His customers are usually children and women. As they
credulous they agree to pay whatever price he demands. So He does not like
elderly men. He usually sells toys. Cosmetics, ready-made garments, daily
necessaries, utensils and balloons of various colors and shapes. Children
gather round him and woman hail him. He is a clever man. He goes out his moving
shop when the elderly people are out on duty or business. He demands higher
price for his things but he sells his things at a cheaper rate. However he is
an expected person for some people. Although he works hard, his life is
miserable. All most all the time he leads a subhuman life.

A
Street Accident
I
read about road accidents in newspaper every day as accidents are a common sight in big
cities. Most of the accidents occur because of the rash and careless driving. They bring agony to our mind and also
to the relatives of victims, but till the day I had not seen an accident with
my own eyes. By God what a terrible sight it was! It was in the short hour of
one evening I was going along Mirpur Road to buy a pen for my examination which
was going to commence next week. At the crossing I was waiting for the traffic
to clear off so that I could safely cross the road. A bus was also running
along the road and it was trying to overtake a private car a head of it. All of
a sudden driver lost the control of steering and rammed against a horse
carriage. The driver of the hackney carriage fell down and the bus crushed him.
The passengers in the hackney carriage escaped death with some injuries. The
horse was also badly wounded and it was looking for his master. The injured
were rushed immediately to a nearby hospital. People gathered at the scene of
accident. Some people were showing sympathy for the victim, some were abusing
the bus driver and some were advising others to be very careful while on a
road. I left the scene with a sorrowful heart for the driver of the carriage
who unfortunately lost his life in that accident. Now everybody says what the
remedy is. Traffic
rules should be followed strictly and we should follow our lane while on the
road. The children should be given traffic rules education at school level. We
should be careful while walking along or crossing the roads. An accident is
synonymous to end of life. Shouldn’t this end now?
- Baishakhi
Mela
A Mela
is an occasional event. Baishakhi Mela is a fair held every year in
the month of Baishakh amid great festivity and merriment. Baishakhi Mela is the
reflection of the true picture of Bangladesh. It is a part and parcel of
Bengalee culture. Baishakhi Mela is such a celebration when the people of our
country become together to welcome their culture without being drowned in the
illusion of western culture. Bangladeshi having the taste of rich culture and
tradition. The largest Baisahaki Mela of the country is held at Ramana
Batamul. People of all ages-poor and rich, children and adults, men and women,
illiterate and educated people of our country participate in this Mela
putting on traditional dresses and enjoy the best of it according to their area
of interest. Peoples are gathered with carrying festoons, play cards Banners
etc. It upraises the traditions and national heritage with assemblage of
delicate woven clothes, potters, top, handicrafts, needle-work and so on. One
of the most attractive events is a lottery. It attracts the people of all ages.
Huge numbers of people are seen in the lottery stalls. Bangladeshi foods are
sold in small shopkeepers. Some shopkeepers sell artificial goods of our daily
uses. Little boys and girls cry and make noise for their toys. Young, old and
children visit the stall and buy different things with utmost enthusiasm. A
cultural programmed is held in the Mela. A lot of singers sing Bengali
traditional songs like Jari, Shari, Bhatiali, folk song. People also come to
these functions with spontaneity and enthusiasm. In addition to these, people
enjoy circus, merry go round and Jatra as special attractions. Such Melas go on
all through the month and witness huge rush in the evening time and holidays. Therefore,
Baishakhi Mela is considered the most significant medium of expressing our
sincerity to our culture, heritage and tradition.

Railway
Station
Travelling by train is cheap and comfortable
compared to buses and planes. So we find a railway station a place of great
hustle and bustle. We come across people from different parts of the country,
in different fashions and colours in the station. Once I happened to be at the
Kamlapur Railway station to see off my friend. He was going to Chittagong by
the Mahanagar Express. The waiting hall was fully crowded with passengers.
There was a long queue in front of the booking window. Everyone seemed to be in
a hurry. A passengers pocket was picked. But the pickpocket was caught
red-handed and handed over to the police. I bought the platform ticket and came
off. We soon reached the platform. The scene here was interesting. Passengers
were waiting eagerly for the arrival of the train. Some were sitting on the
benches smoking or reading newspapers. A few were walking up and down the
platform. The vendors were having a busy time. There was rush at tea stall. The
coolies in red uniforms were sitting in a line. As soon as the train steamed
in, there was noise and commotion everywhere. There was rush at the doors of
compartments. Many passengers got down and many more got in. Coolies were seen
carrying heavy luggage on their heads. Children clung to their parents. The
whole platform was full of noise. Luckily, my friend got a comfortable seat
near a window. Soon all were settled. It was time for the train to depart. The
guard blew the whistle and waved the green flag. The engine whistled and the
train began to move. There was waving of hands and handkerchiefs. The train
soon gained speed and left the station. The platform looked a deserted place once
again. These are the common scenarios of train stations in our country. To make
the place more effective and safe, Rail police can play a vital role. Whatever
negative things our train stations have, these places are playing imperative
role for our communication.
- Heritages of Bangladesh
Mother Nature has adorned our motherland
Bangladesh with numerous eye-catching beauties and our ancestors left some
creative touches on this land which ultimately made our country a place of
local and global heritages. There are many heritage sites in the in Bangladesh.
Each site presents its important aspects and characteristics.Though a small
country, Bangladesh has three World Heritage Sites the historic Shatgombuj
Mosque of Bagerhat, the ruins of the Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur and the
Sundarbans. The Shatgombuj Mosque: The Shatgombuj Mosque is a 15th
Century Islamic edifice situated in the suburbs of Bagerhat, on the edge of the
Sundarbans, some 175 km southwest of Dhaka. It is an enormous Moghul
architectural site covering a very large area. The mosque is unique. It has
sixty pillars, which support seventy-seven exquisitely carved domes that have
worn away with the passage of time. With the declaration of the mosque as a
World Heritage Site, it is hoped that this beautiful architectural monument
will be preserved from further decay. The Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur, 200
kilometres northwest of Dhaka, was founded in the 7th century. It is the
largest single Buddhist monastery in the Indian subcontinent and is also known as
the Somapura Mahavihara, the great Monastery. It was a renowned intellectual
centre from the 7th century until the 17th century. Its layout is perfectly
adapted to its religious function. This monastery-city represents a unique
artistic achievement which has influenced Buddhist architecture as far away as
Cambodia. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1985 at the 9th session of
the 21 member international committee. The Sundarbans is the largest mangrove
forest in the world. It has been declared the 52nd World Heritage Site in the
world; The Sundarbans is also an attractive tourist spot. Many people
particularly foreigners like to see its natural beauty. It is not only a
natural and peaceful atmosphere but also a forest site of seeing the famous Royal
Bengal Tiger or the spotted deer, or even the crocodile. It is still renowned
for its great variety of wild life. Bangladesh has other heritages like folk
music, Ahsan Manjeel, Lalbag Fort etc. We, as the citizens of this beautiful
land, are truly proud of our heritages.

Value of Time (mg‡qi g~j¨)
The buzz expression ‘time heals and time kills’
has a great message and it helps us perceive the momentous effects of time, a
dimension of our perceived world. Value of time lies in the proper use of time.
The momentous moments make us feel the significance of time and that is why
people rightly say lost moments are lost forever. Right time reins the world,
wrong time destroys it. Perfect time perfects us, bad time worsens all. Here lie
the undeniable after-effects of time.
Time is the most valuable matter in our life. It
is going and going forever. It never breaks its journey. It is wise to make proper use of time so long we
are alive. There is no certainty
that we would live tomorrow. So, present is the best time for making proper decision.
Our life is very short but we have to do many
things in this short time. Any negligence
or delay may lead us to failure. The habit of laziness is a great enemy to our path of progress. To make our life successful,
we should make the proper use of time. Students must follow this rule strictly.
They must sit to study when it is
time for studying and go to play when it is time for playing and so on.
There are many successful persons in our society. They
always make proper use of time like Dr. Md. Younus, Malala, Nelson Mandela. Time
once gone is gone forever. Lost wealth may be regained by hard labour, lost
knowledge by study, lost health by taking proper food and medicine but lost time can never be brought back by any
means. It always goes its way and
waits for none. It is only by utilizing every moment of our time, perfectly, we can hope to achieve success in
our endeavor.
A proverb goes that ÒTime and
tide wait for none”. Those who waste their time and indulge in idleness cannot succeed in life. They suffer in
the long run. The wastage of time keeps us away from happiness and progress and paves the way for disgrace and
distress.
Every great person in the world made proper use of
their time. The developed nations are
those who don't waste any time. So we should make the best use of our time. Time talks, time teaches, time gives birth,
and time destroys. So time is everything.

Aim in life/ Future plan of
life
Advancing with the good guesses,
preplans, most probable predictions and definite aim, good plan is the foremost
thing. Aim is a goal (jÿ¨e¯‘) which inspires (DrmvwnZ K‡i) people to reach
their destination (†WmwU‡bBkb-
MšÍe¨). It helps us succeed in life (Rxe‡b mdj n‡Z). So, everyone
should have an aim. There is a proverb that a man without an aim is a ship
without a rudder (D‡Ïk¨nxb
†jvK ˆeVv Qvov GKwU Rvnv‡Ri g‡Zv). Similarly (GKB fv‡e) an aimless
man (D‡Ïk¨wenxb

Different man has different aims
in life. For example (D`vniY m¦iƒc) some people hanker after wealth (m¤ú‡`i

fame (L¨vwZ)
and some travel in the realm (wij&g-iv‡R¨) of knowledge. Besides (ZvQvov)
someone wants to be a doctor, or an engineer ( cÖ‡KŠkjx) or a teacher or a
businessman etc.
My father is a doctor. So, I want
to be a doctor. I am a student of science. I like this profession (‡ckv)
because most of the people of our country are poor and illiterate (wbiÿi).
They suffer from (†fv‡M)
many diseases and often die a premature death (AKvj g„Zz¨). I want to serve
the poor villagers. Qualified doctors (`ÿ Wv³viiv) are unwilling to go
back to village. This is an unfortunate situation (`~ive¨e¯’v) which
should not be allowed to continue (hv Pj‡Z †`Iqv DwPZ bv).
After passing the HSC examination
I shall get myself admitted into a medical college for M.B.B.S. When I will
complete medical education and gain my degree, I will go back to my native
village (Avgvi
wbR MÖv‡g) and serve the village people.
A doctor’s life is a dedicated
life (DrmM©K…Z
Rxeb). A person’s life or death depends on a doctor’s work. There is
really a great satisfaction (mwZ¨Kvi A‡_© GKwU eo AvZ¥Z„wß) in the service of the
sick and sufferings people (Amy¯’ Ges AvµvšÍ ‡jvKR‡bi †mevq).
As a doctor I will certainly
charge fee (Aek¨B

less fee from the poor (Kg wd ‡b‡ev). But I will never sell myself for money (wKš‘

than all the money in the world. As a doctor, I will ever (wPiw`b)
keep it in my mind

Success in life depends mainly on
the right aim of life. So, everyone should choose one’s profession (†ckv) as
a dream, a dream of life.

the indomitable forces of nature (cÖK…wZi `y`©gbxq kw³).The wonders of modern science
are too many to illustrate (eY©bv Ki‡Z) them in a short composition.
Electricity (we`y¨r)
is a great wonder of modern science. It has brought about a great revolution (eo ai‡Yi
wecøe) in our life. It is a great source of power and energy. It is
called the driving force (PvwjKv kw³) of modern civilzation. Modern
civilization is indeed (cÖK…Zc‡ÿ) the creation of electricity (we`y¨‡Zi
Avwe¯‹vi).
Television is one of the wonders
of modern science. It is a source of entertainment. It is the part and parcel
of everyday life (ˆ`bw›`b
Rxe‡bi Awe‡”Q`¨ Ask).We can enjoy songs, video, dance, plays, dramas and
so on on television.
Computer is another wonders of
modern science. Mills and Factories (wgj-d¨v±ix), industries (wkíKviLvbv),
office-court (Awdm-Av`vjZ
), bank and educational institutions(cÖwZôvb) are run by computer
today. It is the substitute (weKí) of human brain (gw¯Í‡¯‹i)
The invention of rocket (i‡KU)
is a wonder of modern science. With the help of rocket, space travel (gnvk~‡Y¨

is one of the greatest (me‡P‡q eo) achievements in this respect (GB w`K

Science has provided great
wonders in the field of medical science. Penicillin and X-rays (†cwbwmwjb
Ges G· iwk¥) are the wonders of medical science. Penicillin is called
life saving medicine (Jla). X-ray helps the doctor to diagnose (WvBAv‡MvbvBR-
kbv³ Ki‡Z) diseases. Nuclear energy (cvigvYweK kw³) is one of the
wonders of modern science. It can be used for peaceful and constructive (¯’vcZ¨)
purposes.
Science has brought about a
revolution (wecøe
NwU‡q‡Q) in the field of mass communication (MY ‡hvMv‡hv‡Mi ‡ÿ‡Î).
Mobile phones, Computers, Television, Radios, Vehicles (hvbevnb) are the
sources (Drm)
of mass communication. Now we can send information from one corner of the world
to another (GK

In fact (cÖK…Z c‡ÿ ), modern
science is seemed like a Aladin’s magic lamp (Rv`yi evwZ). We do not know
what will happen in future with the blessing of science. Let’s wait with
eagerness.

Uses and abuses satellite TV
channels
Television, the highly used and
mostly popular electronic medium all over the world, has made the world updated, happy and well-informed in
one hand and it has derailed the youths, made the millions laid-back people,
sowed the evil seeds of crimes and violence the other. This necessary-evil has
been our part of daily life and it engulfed us from all sides. This unavoidable
box has been a blessing and a curse without doubt.
The word television comes from
the Latin words Òtele” which means
distance (`yiZ¡)and
Òvision” which means seeing. So
television means seeing from distance. It is one of the wonders of modern
science. It provides us the images and sound at the same time. As a result (d‡j),
it has become very popular all over the world. With the help of satellite TV
channels we can enjoy the events (NUbvmg~n) which are going to
happen in any corner of the world.
Television wasn’t invented (Avwe¯‹vi)
in a day. It has taken many years to invent television. The idea of it came
first in the mind of a German scientist named Paul Nepkov (cj wbc‡Kv).
He thought of sending images (Qwe †cÖi‡Yi wPšÍv) to a distant place (`~ieZx©).
Then a British scientist named John Logie Baird invented TV in 1926.
The main feature (wdPvi
-ˆewkó) of television is the audio-visual effect (AwWI-wfRyqvj
B‡d±). It is based on (MwVZ) photography (d‡UvMªvwd). The receiving device
(MÖnY
hš¿) of television receives the audio and video (AwWI -wfwWI) at the
same time by a network system (†bUIqvK© c×wZi gva¨‡g). Then we can see image and
hear audio through (ga¨w`‡q) a television set.
Television is the most up-to-date
(me‡P‡q
AZ¨vaywbK) means of communcation (‡hvMv‡hv‡Mi gva¨g). As a medium
of mass communication (‡hvMv‡hv‡Mi MY gva¨g wn‡m‡e), it has proved its
superiority (†kªôZ¡).
Television is a powerful medium (kw³kvjx gva¨g) of mass education (MYwkÿv).
In order to eradicate illiteracy (wbiÿiZv `~i Ki‡Z) from our
society, it can play a vital role (¸iæZ¡c~Y© f~wgKv cvjb Ki‡Z cv‡i).
We can know about agriculture, food, environment and current politics (ivRbxwZ).
Nowadays almost (eZ©gvb)
everybody has a television set.
It is the best medium of
entertainment (we‡bv`b).
Teaching is delivered (cÖ`vb Kiv nq) through television. The programmes (Kg©m~wP)
of Bangladesh Open University are run through television. We can enjoy the
games and sports (‡Ljv
ayjv), songs, dramas (bvUK), dances, live concert (KbmvU©) and many other
necessary events. Television plays a vital role (¸iæZ¡c~Y© f~wgKv) to solve the
national problem like population problem, unemployment problem (‡eKvimgm¨v),
social crimes (mvgvwRK
Aciva),illiteracy (wbiÿZv) and so on (Av‡iv A‡bK wKQy).
The programmes of BBC and CNN are
shown nowadays on TV. With the help of satellite TV channels we can enjoy any
sort of programmes telecast by most of the TV centres of the world. So the
educative value (wkÿvg~jK
¸iæZ¡) of television cannot be denied (A¯^xKvi Kiv hvqbv). Television
has also bad sides. Sometimes antisocial films, exciting violence (msNl©)
are shown on TV. They spoil the young generation. Despite this negative aspects
(G
mKj †bwZevPK w`K _vKv m‡Z¡I) it is used for the greater interest of
human being.

Population Problem in
Bangladesh
Population of a country is an
asset. But it becomes a problem when the country cannot afford to her people
the basic necessities (‡gŠwjK cÖ‡qvRbxqZv) of life such as food, clothing (e¯¿),
habitation (evm¯’vb),
medicine and education. The rapid growth of population is a burning question (Av‡jvwPZ welq)of today. Every year a large
number of people are increasing without control (AcÖ‡qvRbxq fv‡e).
Bangladesh is a small country of
55,598 square miles. The density of population per square mile is 1926 whereas
in the U.S.A it is about 41 per square mile. Our growth rate is 1.6%. If this
growth rate continuous (Pj‡Z _v‡K), the population of Bangladesh will be
double within the next thirty years. The present growth rate of population of
our country is a big challenge (eo ai‡bi ûgwK) to our existence (Aw¯ÍZ¡
†Z) as a nation.
There are many reasons of rapid
growth of population. The growth rate of population depends on the birth rate
and the death rate. There is no doubt (†Kvb m‡›`n †bB) that the birth
rate is very higher than the death rate. Most of the people of our country are not
aware. They don’t understand about the problem of growing population. As a
result, they do not take any family planning to control birth rate.
Most of the people of our country
are uneducated. They cannot read and write. Specially, the girls get married
before they become matured (cÖvß eq¯‹) in the rural areas. This early marriage is
the main reason of over population. Moreover, some rural and religious
superstitions (Kzms¯‹vi)
obstruct (evav
†`q) people to take family planning.
Lack of female education is
another reason of over population. As they are not properly educated, they are
not aware of the negative effects of over population.
To stop over population,
necessary steps should be taken. Family planning must be taken to control (wbqš¿Y Ki‡Z) high birth rate. Campaigns (Awfhvb) against over population should be
spread all over the country. Early marriage should be stopped for the greater
interest of the country. Govt. should impose law strictly (K‡Vvi fv‡e) against population problems.
General people of the rural areas have to be educated. Consciousness (m‡PZbZv) among the people should be
raised (RvwM‡q Zzj‡Z n‡e).

A journey by train/ The
journey you like best
Any kind of journey is always
pleasure to me. I am fond of travelling from one place to another to see new
places and new things. It is very interesting and thrilling (‡ivgvÂKi)
to me. I think journey is the source of knowledge. Man has an unquenchable
thirst (AZ„ß
Z…òv) for knowledge. Travelling helps one to fulfill one’s thirst. A few
days ago, I got a chance to make a journey by train.
It was the last December. Our
school/college was closed for winter. So I decided to go to chittagong to visit
my uncle’s house. The day was fixed (wbw`©ó). All arrangements (mKj e¨e¯’v)
were made without delay (wej¤^ Qvov). I bought a first class ticket in
advance. On the fixed day, I went to Kamlapur Railway station. The station was
full of the passengers (hvÎx). However, I got into the train. Fortunetly, I
sat down beside the window . There were passengers of different kinds (wewfbœ iKg).
Some were smoking. It seemed (g‡b n‡qwQ‡jv) that they did not have any common sense
(b~b¨Zg
we‡eK). Some were reading newspapers. A young boy sat down beside me. I
soon became friendly with him.
Just at 8 a.m. the guard blew his
whistle (euvwk
evRv‡jv) and waved his flag (cZvKv Dov‡jv) and the train
began to move slowly. In the twinkling of an eye (†Pv‡Li cj‡K) the train
left the station. After passing a few minutes, I looked at the natural scenery
through the window. It seemed that train was passing the trees, green field and
houses within a second. The farmers were working in the fields.
The sun was shining brightly.
Birds were flying in the sky. The beautiful scenery of rivers and canals
charmed (gy»)
me very much. I continued looking outside. I even forgot myself. When the train
touched Mynamati (gqbvgwZ)
station, I was made conscious (‡PZbv/†PZb) by the jerk of the train (‡Uª‡bi
av°v Øviv). Meanwhile (BwZg‡a¨), I took my breakfast with snacks (mœvKm)
and tea. Again, the train moved on with full speed. I fell asleep (Nywg‡q
†Mjvg). But within a short time, I woke up.
Just at 2 p.m. the train reached
at the station. Then I got down from the train and went to my uncle’s house. I
will not forget this pleasurable journey.
42. E-mail
Short for electronic mail, email (or e-mail) is
defined as the transmission of messages over communications networks. Typically
the messages are notes entered from the keyboard or electronic files stored on
disk. Most mainframes, minicomputers, and computer networks have an email system.
Some electronic mail systems are confined to a
single computer system or network, but others have gateways to other computer
systems, enabling users to send electronic mail anywhere in the world.
Companies that are fully computerized make extensive use of e-mail because it
is fast, flexible, and reliable.
Most e-mail systems include a rudimentary text
editor for composing messages, but many allow you to edit your messages using
any editor you want. Some systems will also provide basic formatting, including
bold, italics, font color and HTML. You can use the program to send the message
to a recipient by specifying the recipient's address. You can also send the
same message to several users at once. This is called broadcasting.
Sent messages are stored in electronic mailboxes
until the recipient fetches them. To see if you have any mail, you may have to
check your electronic mailbox periodically, although many systems alert you
when mail is received. After reading your mail, you can store it in a text file,
forward it to other users, or delete it. Copies of memos can be printed out on
a printer if you want a paper copy.
All online services and Internet Service Providers
(ISPs) offer email, and most also support gateways so that you can exchange
mail with users of other systems. Usually, it takes only a few seconds or
minutes for mail to arrive at its destination. This is a particularly effective
way to communicate with a group because you can broadcast a message or document
to everyone in the group at once.
Although different e-mail systems use different
formats, there are some emerging standards that are making it possible for
users on all systems to exchange messages. In the PC world, an important e-mail
standard is MAPI. The CCITT standards organization has developed the X.400
standard, which attempts to provide a universal way of addressing messages.
To date, though, the de facto addressing standard is
the one used by the Internet system because almost all e-mail systems have an
Internet gateway.
Email is widely used as a form of business
communication and overall it is a highly effective communication tool. Email is
inexpensive, only requiring an Internet connection that is generally already
present in the business. Although a printout of emails is possible, emails
often stay as soft copies because archiving and retrieving email communications
is easy to do. From the CEO to the janitorial staff and even temporary
employees of the business can send and receive email communications.
Email has been revolutionary in the world of
business communication because information is quickly passed along with
instantaneous efficiency and effectiveness. Employees are able to access
information from a computer, phone or PDA nearly anywhere, and so are the
company’s current and potential customers. The use of email within a business
can greatly increase productivity for employees and can be a quick way to
increase sales as well. More companies are using email communications as part
of the marketing mix to communicate and interact with its target markets.
